Estimating success:
How every Rendine project gets off to an ideal start
In both construction and business relationships, strong foundations are paramount.
For Rendine Constructions, the ideal way to underpin any new project and give confidence to our commercial clients is by providing a fast, reliable cost estimate that enables them to proceed with certainty.
Our skilled Estimating team boasts a cumulative 70 years’ specialised experience with commercial builders and quantity surveying consultancy practices, which it applies across a range of conventional (on-site) and modular construction projects.

The combination of advanced technical knowledge, experience with Early Contractor Involvement (ECI), a wealth of historical and current costing data, and our renowned can-do attitude, enables Rendine’s Estimating team to quickly come to grips with the requirements of any project.
“Regardless of whether our clients have 70% designed documents, 30%, or nothing but a concept of what they wish to build and achieve, we have the ability to provide early costing advice,” says Estimating team leader and experienced quantity surveyor, Mick O’Hagan.
“Clients ranging from private schools to restaurateurs and property developers have proven happy to return to Rendine for assistance and guidance at an early stage on further projects.”
Mick says skilled estimating can deliver a huge advantage for clients. “In the early stages we can issue a fairly accurate estimate with enough certainty that they can confidently go to the bank, and to start planning permits without full documentation. That saves them a lot of time in getting their project under way,” he says.
For Modularity by Rendine, our highly successful modular construction business, the Estimating team is especially integral to meeting the Modularity promise to lock in costs and programmatic certainty from the outset of every new project.
“With Modularity, the key is that the customer knows from the start exactly what it will cost, enabling them to plan well and have everything in place to achieve a fast completion,” Mick says.
Drawing on over 50 years of commercial construction experience, Rendine’s extensive list of completed conventional and modular projects provides an invaluable reference point.
“Over time we’ve built a database of costs which means if the price comes in a bit low or high, we know immediately we need to check and validate it,” Mick says.
Led by Mick’s extensive experience in quantity surveying and the ability of fellow team members Hasith Athukoralage, Tanya Nuduzha and Andrew Mills to break up any job into its components, Rendine is able to achieve the rare combination of estimating projects with both speed and accuracy.
“Within a few hours we can produce a reasonably accurate figure, then start to hone in more on an exact figure using precise quantities,” Mick says.
“This also gives us the capacity to handle unusual requests and hard-to-price jobs. We’ll pull apart a non-standard job to find the right costing and avoid anomalies.”
Rendine clients benefit from competitive pricing that doesn’t include inbuilt margins. “We’ve already looked at the job in detail, so we don’t need to account for contingencies,” Mick says.
“We can also compile highly competitive tenders, because we’re able to estimate with or without subcontractor feedback. This reduces customer exposure to market cycles when there may be a lack of subcontractor capacity at the time.”
The skills of our agile Estimating team are just one example of ‘The Rendine Difference’ – our focus on delivering a seamless experience across every facet of the customer journey.
